POWER: Project for an Ontario Women's Health Evidence-Based Report
The POWER Study is producing a Women's Health Report to serve as an evidence-based tool for policy makers, providers, and consumers in their efforts to improve health and reduce health inequities among Ontario women.
We are reporting on the overall health of women and men in Ontario, their access to health care services, and how these are related to the social determinants of health. POWER is examining the leading causes of illness and death, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, depression, diabetes, musculoskeletal disorders and reproductive health.
Over 60 researchers from a range of disciplines and institutions are analyzing current information on women’s health and health care to look at differences between men and women and between various groups of women. Health differences being examined are those associated with age, income, education, ethnicity, language and geography.
An advisory council, technical expert panels, and community stakeholders from across the province also contribute to the POWER Study.
POWER is a multi-year project funded by Echo: Improving Women's Health in Ontario. The POWER Study is a partnership between the Keenan Research Centre in the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael’s Hospital and the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES), in Toronto, Canada.
