Verna Mai
Dr. Verna Mai is the Director of Screening at Cancer Care Ontario (CCO). In this role, she oversees cancer screening, including the two established provincial breast and cervical screening programs.
She is a graduate of the MD Program at the University of Alberta and completed her specialty training in Community Medicine at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Mai has worked as Medical Officer of Health at the Elgin-St. Thomas Health Unit and the Associate Medical Officer of Health and Director of Education and Research at the Middlesex-London Health Unit, prior to joining CCO in 1998.
She was the Chair of the National Committee for the Canadian Breast Cancer Screening Initiative from 2000-2003, and is Chair of the Screening Action Group of the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer.
She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences, University of Toronto, and has research interests in cancer screening and population health.
