Dr Hux is a staff physician at the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, as well as an assistant professor of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and a scientist at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences.

Dr. Hux earned her medical degree from the University of Toronto in 1989 and did her fellowship training in Internal Medicine at the University of Western Ontario and the University of Toronto. She also holds a Master of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Western Ontario (1987) and a Master of Science degree in Epidemiology from Harvard University (1994). She was the inaugural Adam Linton Fellow in Health Services Research at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES).  

In 1996 Dr. Hux was appointed as a scientist at ICES and joined the Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. She has held operating grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and Physicians' Services Incorporated. She is recognized nationally for her work in using administrative data to evaluate patterns of diabetes and its outcomes. Dr. Hux was appointed Chief Operating Officer of the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences in November 2007.   Dr. Hux published approximately 78 peer-reviewed journal articles.
