Dr. Elizabeth Badley is an epidemiologist and health services researcher. She is a professor in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, and is a Senior Scientist and Head of the Division of Health Care and Outcomes Research at the Toronto Western Research Institute, University Health Network. She is currently the Director of the Arthritis Community Research and Evaluation Unit, Toronto, Canada, which carries out applied health services and epidemiology research in partnership with The Arthritis Society, Ontario Division and the Ontario Ministry of Health.

Dr. Badley has an extensive research career specializing in the epidemiology of chronic and disabling conditions, particularly musculoskeletal disorders. Her research interests focus on the epidemiology of disablement with particular emphasis on musculoskeletal disorders. She has published widely on the epidemiology of rheumatic disorders, their impact in the population and implications for service provision, as well as on the assessment of impairments, disabilities and handicaps. Her research includes major population surveys with the objective of planning community services for people with disabling conditions, such as arthritis; estimating the impact of musculoskeletal disorders and disability through the analysis of large scale data sets; and applied research directed towards the development and evaluation of community-based rehabilitation services for people with arthritis.

She has been a consultant to the World Health Organization on the classification of disablement, and continues to serve on a number of international, national and local expert panels and committees concerned with research, health policies and services for chronic disease and disability.
