Dr. Shah is currently a Scientist at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES). He is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto, and a staff physician in the Division of Endocrinology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Dr. Shah received his medical degree and completed post-graduate training in internal medicine and endocrinology, all at the University of Toronto. He then completed a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Toronto.

He is funded as a Clinician-Scientist by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Canadian Diabetes Association. His research program aims to understand and improve the delivery and outcomes of diabetes care. His research has focused on evaluating different models for diabetes care delivery, including "shared care" between primary and specialist care and diabetes education provided by nurses, dietitians and other health care professionals. He is also evaluating differences in diabetes care and outcomes in visible minority populations in Canada.
