Older Women's Health Chapter Launch - October 27th, 2011

Aging is an important women’s health issue. Canada’s aging population is presenting unique challenges to the health system on multiple fronts. Women comprise the majority of the older population and have different patterns of illness and health needs than men.

HIV Chapter Launch - June 1st, 2011

HIV prevention and care is complex and directly influenced by stigma, marginalization and the social determinants of health. The POWER Study HIV infection chapter reports on indicators related to HIV infection including sections on incidence, prevalence and risk behaviours; community services for HIV; clinical care and HIV outcomes. This chapter provides critical information on patterns of care for women and men in Ontario, and how they vary by socioeconomic, demographic, HIV exposure category and regional characteristics.

Reproductive and Gynaecological Health Chapter Launch - February 22nd, 2011

This chapter focuses on the health of women as it specifically relates to their reproductive systems. Unlike other POWER Study chapters that examine the complex interplay between sex and health in the context of conditions that affect both men and women, this chapter focuses primarily on how the characteristics of women -- how old they are, how well educated, how wealthy, where they live -- affects health and health care issues that are unique to women. The issues covered in this chapter span the life course from teenage pregnancy to hysterectomy in older women.

Diabetes Chapter Launch - September 16th, 2010

In this chapter we provide critical information on patterns of disparities in diabetes care in Ontario that can be used to target interventions. We also report on how the health outcomes of diabetes and the quality of care differ by age, gender and socioeconomic status. This information can be used to identify areas where disparities can be reduced and care can be improved.

Musculoskeletal Conditions Chapter Launch - July 6th, 2010

In this chapter we report on condition-specific prevalence, indicators of health and functional status, access and utilization of services and clinical care indicators for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis. We examine performance on these indicators for women and men and assess differences by income, education, age and geography.

Access to Health Care Services Chapter Launch - March 30th, 2010

This chapter reports on Ontarians’ access to health care services and how it differs by sex, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, language, immigration and geography. The chapter includes sections on access to primary care, access to care for chronic diseases and access to and wait times for specialty care and home care.

Cardiovascular Disease Chapter Launch - December 9th, 2009

This chapter focuses on the three major types of CVD that affect both women and men in the province: ischemic heart disease, heart failure and stroke. We provide information on the quality of life of women and men with CVD and wait times for cardiovascular procedures.

Cancer Chapter Launch - August 20th, 2009

This chapter reports on several of the most common forms of the disease, including cancers of the breast, reproductive system and lung, as well as colorectal cancer. It also provides information on cancer incidence, survival rates and end-of-life care; and includes indicators that capture the continuum of cancer care (prevention, screening, treatment and follow-up).
